The City of Chelsea contacted us to lead the renovation of Engine Company 3, a historic and formerly handsome building. Although many of its original components were long gone, the structure’s major elements remained intact and were in dire need of modernization. A full gut renovation of the fire station resulted in an expanded and updated facility.
In the spirit of restoring its original splendor, our design replaced the windows, roof, and overhead doors. It also included a new commercial kitchen, new stairs, new mechanical systems, renovated dormitories, locker rooms, restrooms, a new union room, and a dedicated fitness room in the basement. Finally, an addition to the second story was made, which now includes a lounge.
To complete this project, we successfully wrote an ARRA grant that was used to fund this Engine Company 3 renovation. Our experience participating in national public safety conferences provides us with access to both local and national grant information, which spearheaded our successful grant application.
