Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for North Billerica’s Fire Station Building
On Wednesday April 29, 2026, The Galante Architecture Studio participated in a groundbreaking ceremony held at the future site of the new fire station building in North Billerica, Massachusetts. The ceremony was also attended by members of Billerica’s Selectboard and Town Administration, Fire Department staff, Construction Dynamics, Inc., and representatives from LeftField Project Management.
Attendees from The Galante Architecture Studio included Principal-In-Charge and Company President Ted Galante, as well as Paolo Carissimi, and Selin Enar. Nancy Cadigan, a Legislative Aide from Massachusetts State Representative Marc Lombardo’s office, was in attendance to present North Billerica’s Fire Chief Robert Cole with a proclamation letter during the ceremony.
The new 9,240 square foot fire station in North Billerica started as a feasibility study assessing the Town’s existing fire station. It was determined that the land where the current fire station is located could not be built on further, due to protections by the conservation commission and sustainability groups. The Galante Architecture Studio worked with the Town of Billerica to find and assess potential new sites, providing detailed reports and in-depth comparisons of the sites, before deciding on the location at 176 Boston Road. The new fire station will include state-of-the-art decontamination, protecting against cancer and other health hazards, as well as bunk rooms, living quarters, and a fitness area. Construction on the new two-bay station is expected to conclude in June 2027, with the building initially estimated to cost $7,600,000.
Reflecting on the kickoff ceremony, North Billerica’s Fire Chief Robert Cole said, “the groundbreaking today went well. There’s a lot of community support and a lot of people excited about the job after seeing different iterations and changes [to the building] that has brought us to this point. This is a good day, and moving forward we should really be able to get going on this project.”
