Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Chelmsford Fire Stations #3 and #5

On Monday, May 18, 2026, The Galante Architecture Studio participated in a morning groundbreaking ceremony held at the future site of the two new fire station buildings in Chelmsford, Massachusetts: Fire Station #3 and Fire Station #5. The ceremony to celebrate both future fire station facilities was held at the current site of Fire Station #3.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Chelmsford’s Town Manager Paul Cohen, Director of Public Works Christine Clancy, Town Constable Edwin Paul Eriksen, and members of Chelmsford’s Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services staff. Key members of the project include LeftField Project Management as Owner’s Project Managers, Castagna Construction as the General Contractors, and The Galante Architecture Studio as the Project Architects.

Attendees from The Galante Architecture Studio included Principal-In-Charge and Company President Ted Galante, as well as Project Manager Brian Elyo, Assistant Project Manager Austin Drake, and Senior Designer Simona Bartali. The groundbreaking ceremony featured remarks from Town Manager Paul Cohen, Chelmsford Fire Chief Gary Ryan, and Ted Galante.

To support the growing Town of Chelmsford, MA, The Galante Architecture Studio is currently designing two state-of-the-art fire stations focused on fast response times and first responder health and wellness. Fire stations #3 and #5 (8,500 square feet and 9,000 square feet, respectively) will follow the latest National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines by promoting hot zone and cold zone separation to prevent carcinogen transfer between living and work spaces. Both buildings are designed to be durable and easy to maintain, emphasizing long-lasting materials on the exteriors that will require little upkeep cost throughout the lifespan of the buildings.

The two stations will support the Town of Chelmsford’s overall sustainability goals by utilizing an all-electric system supported by geothermal wells and solar panels. Energy produced on-site via solar energy and heat from the earth’s core will power both stations throughout regular hours. In the event of an emergency, backup generators will be readily available to keep the town’s fire stations online throughout severe weather emergencies or other potential calamities. The Town of Chelmsford received a $1 million federal grant from the United States Department of Energy Resources (DOER) Green Communities Division to fund sustainability features in Fire Station #3 and Fire Station #5.
The fire stations are expected to be completed by August 2027.
