Yar Laakso
Principal
A passion for art, architecture and design drove Yar into the architecture field, landing him at TGAS in 2011 after 12 years of working with firms in the Greater Boston Region. He has run projects ranging in scale from millwork design to the construction of multi-story buildings, and has acted as Senior Designer for such major TGAS projects as Harvard University’s Boston Facilities, Harvard Education Portal (which received LEED Gold certification), and Boston University’s Metropolitan College. Yar draws on an exhaustive knowledge of materials, fabrication, construction, and the art-making process to inform his design work. He also taught classes at the Boston Architectural College, assisted with courses at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and specializes in architectural mockups, prototyping, digital fabrication, and design processes. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from RISD and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from the College of Santa Fe. Now, as a TGAS principal, Yar aims to help his company provide exceptional building design and construction excellence for all its clients. He is inspired by the works of Tadao Ando, Bjarke Ingels, Sami Rintala, and artist Gordon Matta Clark. Outside of work, Yar enjoys drawing, painting, metalsmithing, songwriting. guitar, canoeing, and spending long weekends in Vermont.
