Cambridge Fire Station Headquarters

Net-Zero Carbon Emissions

Description

Cambridge Fire Department is one of a limited number of Class 1 departments nationwide. This project is a net-zero-emissions gut renovation and historic restoration of this Class 1 Fire Department Headquarters. The 35,000-square-foot building has been largely untouched since it was built in 1932 and is in deep need of renovation and expansion. Our careful work includes documenting the nearly 100 years of history while programming for the expanded new facility and creating Building Information Models (BIM) to bring the facility into the 21st century. The City of Cambridge mandate requires LEED Gold, therefore our process involves energy modeling and calculations to convert a 92-year-old building envelope into a 21st– century one.
