TGAS Receives Two Fire Station Design Awards

In December 2025, The Galante Architecture Studio received two Notable design awards from Firehouse Magazine, a Career 1 Distinction for the Northbridge, Massachusetts Fire Department Headquarters and a Career 2 distinction for the Temporary Station 10 project in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Completed in Spring 2024, the Northbridge Fire Department headquarters was the town’s first formal station after decades of operating out of crumbling mill buildings. The Galante Architecture Studio’s design of the 29,800-square-foot headquarters prioritized the health and safety for firefighters with carcinogen prevention initiatives and decontamination programming, provided pathfinding tools to guide firefighters through the building, and mitigated potential traffic issues with a shared driveway concept that allows fire operations vehicles to circumvent local traffic from impeding its operations. Up to ten fire and EMS vehicles are accommodated by the station’s five double-deep apparatus bays. Artifacts from the fire department’s robust history are featured throughout the building, preserving NFD’s storied legacy in its new home.
Honored with a Career 2 Notable distinction from Firehouse Magazine, Temporary Station 10 in Cambridge, MA helped facilitate the city’s renovation of its century-old fire headquarters by providing a modular building to relocate the fire department and its apparatus while construction was being completed. Featuring four separate apparatus bays stitched together, as well as a dive rescue unit, Cambridge’s Temporary Station 10 operates as an accessible residential station that reduces the impact of noise pollution from engine sirens in the dense urban neighborhood, and provides long-term modular facilities that can be transported and repurposed for the city’s future renovation initiatives. Station 10’s distinct red color palette and high visibility is one of many characteristics that received recognition from Firehouse Magazine’s station design judges, who remarked, “The attention to detail in the exterior design of the building is remarkable since it is a temporary building.”
